Austin TX (PRWEB) January 23, 2014
The pick was part of the 2014 Austin Songwriters Group Symposium, which is an annual event held in Austin Texas. Songwriters from Texas and throughout the country converge for a 4 day event in hopes of getting their song picked up by one of the six visiting Nashville publishers. If a song is picked up, it stands a chance of being submitted to a major recording artist or used in other media outlets, such as television, video games or movies.
“It was certainly an honor to have one of my original songs recognized by the industry” says Wayne Gathright. He continues “The songs that I write and produce tend to be influenced by my musical heroes, such as the Beatles, Steely Dan, The Kinks, Aerosmith. I like interesting musical breaks and chord changes along with thick harmony and thought provoking lyrics.” The song which was chosen is a hidden statement about the unabashed spread of nuclear weapons, however, outwardly it is about children in a school playground playing a dangerous game called ‘Pass Around the Bomb’. It is very reminiscent of the later Beatles songs and production. The song was selected by Chelsea Kent from Still Working Music, a company founded by the late Barbara Orbison, to continue the legacy of her husband Roy Orbison. The vocalist on the song was Rick Petersen, who works with Mr. Gathright on a regular basis.
Starting as a self-taught guitarist, Wayne studied piano and music theory in school, eventually becoming a major influence in a number of successful bands in diverse styles such as jazz, swing, country and rock. He later founded Music Lane Recording Studio, which was voted 3 times the top recording studio in Austin and recorded some of the best acts to play in the self proclaimed ‘Music Capital of the World’.
In addition to musical ventures, Mr. Gathright also started several businesses, including the Tenant File Property Management Software, which is used by over 10,000 property managers and real estate offices throughout the USA. The MusicianMarket.com website was founded in the year 2000, and provides music and recording gear to musicians worldwide.
MusicianMarket.com is a worldwide provider of musical instruments, including band instruments, guitars, amplifiers, recording gear, and accessories. The website also provides resources for musicians such as books for learning instruments and links to music instruction and cd duplication.
