To be eligible, participants must be a current resident or fellow in their final year of their Graduate Medical Education Program at the Mayo Clinic. The participants must not be on claim currently, or have been on claim, or submitted a claim for disability benefits at any time within six months prior to the policy effective date.
In addition to the main program offered, The Standard offers to issue individual disability insurance policies that take three forms.
First, a “Starter Policy” with a $1,500 monthly benefit available to residents and fellows who have not yet started their final year at the Mayo clinic.
Second, a “Fellowship Policy” with a $2,000 monthly benefit and $8,000 Future Purchase Option Without Medical Evidence amount available to all residents who are going into a Fellowship whether at the Mayo Clinic or at another ACGME approved program or current Fellows at the Mayo Clinic.
Finally, a "Graduate Policy" with an option of $5,000 or $3,500 monthly benefit and $8,000 Future Purchase Option Without Medical Evidence for residents and fellows within their final year.
Additional features built into the program available in order to customize disability coverage include Specialty Own Occupation Language, To Age 67 Benefit Period, Residual Disability, Indexed Cost of Living Adjustment, Additional Catastrophic Disability Benefits, Future Increase Options Without Medical Evidence.
Applications may be submitted anytime after September 1st during their final program year. That means today for those in their final year currently.
