The massive 94-city, 277-event Monster Jam tour features mighty 12-foot tall trucks that weigh over 10,000 pounds - as they race, spin, flip, fly and leap over cars and buses in a single bound.

When 10,000-pound trucks fly, fired-up fans flock in to see it. Such is the case with the high-octane Monster Jam tour. Tickets for this year’s 94-city 277-date road trip are in overdrive once again as the mighty machines make their moves around the country.

This weekend, the tour ramps up in Little Rock, Arkansas: Washington D.C., Greenville, South Carolina; Knoxville, Tennessee; New Orleans, Louisiana; Indianapolis, Indiana; Anaheim, California; Orlando, Florida and Phoenix, Arizona.

Next weekend, the trucks fly in Peoria, Illinois; Dayton, Ohio; Uniondale, New York; Fargo, North Dakota; Charleston, West Virginia and Rockford, Illinois. The nationwide competitions culminate with the Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas every year, with this season’s events set for Sam Boyd Stadium on March 20 - 22, 2014.

Monster Jam is a live motorsport event tour and TV series sponsored by Advance Auto Parts and operated by Feld Entertainment. The series is sanctioned under the United States Hot Rod Association (USHRA) and takes place primarily in the states.

Although individual event formats can vary greatly based on the “intermission” entertainment, the main attraction is always the monster trucks facing off in the racing and freestyle competitions. Side-by-side racing is done in the traditional format, where the first truck to cross the finish line moves onto the next round until it is eliminated or wins the Championship race.

The Freestyle competition gives drivers 90 seconds, plus a 30 second bonus period, on an open floor to show off their skills as they drive over cars. Competitors perform stunts that make these massive high-horsepower vehicles appear to dance gracefully across the track. The winner is determined by three judges who each give the driver a rating out of a possible 10. These numbers are then added for a total tally.

There are two winners from both events. However, if the same person who won racing that night also won Freestyle, then they get the Double Down trophy, named after the Double Down activities in the Las Vegas Monster Jam World Finals.

In the smaller shows, there is a wheelie competition or a donut contest, and sometimes both. The goal in the wheelie competition is to hit a ramp and get big air while remaining perpendicular to the ground. In the donut competition, drivers try to spin their trucks until they get dizzy, the truck can't go any more, or they think they have a good enough score to win. (Source:
