Anytime there's a discussion about the relative merits of the Android and iOS mobile operating systems, there's one thing not often seen: a shrug of indifference. Both sides have partisans, and they are extremely vocal about their operating system of choice. Marriages have probably ended over this argument. The recent introductions of iOS 7 and Android 4.4 have only intensified the debate.

The passion Android and iOS supporters have for these products might give the impression there is some fundamental difference between the two. But for the most part, they do the same things -- albeit in a very different way.

"Android and iOS share much of the same functionality, but that doesn't mean they are interchangeable," said Christopher, mobile expert with Armor for Android. "There are distinct differences that make each operating system a better fit for certain consumers, depending on their wants and needs."
