Announcement: BluesGuitar.com Releases “Blues Guitar Lesson - Cool Turnaround Riff in the Style of Stevie Ray Vaughan - Pride & Joy”
(PRWEB) January 25, 2014 -- The Turnaround is used in many styles of music. The Blues Turnaround or V, VI, I (5-4-1) Turnaround came from the Ragtime Blues era. The cadence of the Blues Turnaround is backwards from traditional western music. The job of the Blues Turnaround is to show the listener where the chord progression ends and starts over, it does this by ending on the V (five) of the chord progression making it want to resolve back to the I (one).
“A great thing about learning and studying the 12 bar blues is that so many songs are rooted in that chord progressionm,” says MacLennan. Jon demonstrates the lick as follows; first he plays the open 6th string as a quarter note, then first finger on the 2nd fret of the 2nd string and 2nd finger on the 3rd fret of the 3rd string and strums both strings together and slides up one half step and strums twice, the whole sequence is played as a triplet. Next he slides his 2nd finger down a whole step to the second fret and does a pull-off to the open string and follows that with the 2nd fret of the 4th string. Next he plays the open 6th string again followed by the 3rd fret of the 6th string, then open 5th string, first fret 5th string, 2nd fret 5th string and finally finishes it off with a B7 chord.
