Massacre Lake was very inspired by the inventive low-budget cinema of Mario Bava, who is often referred to as the Italian Hitchcock, and is certainly the godfather of a very fascinating and artistic golden period in genre cinema in Europe popularized by Argento and Fulci among others.
“Like many of Bava’s films, this was a passion project made in 5 days; shooting two cameras, but moving very quickly with an extremely low budget and working within the limited parameters we had. The challenge was part of the fun and also an essential part of the film that really does give it the authentic feel of the type of cinema made in those days.” - Micah Gallo
