Imagitale Studios hopes kids will love science through characters introduced in the new children’s e-book Gravy and the Boattrain by David Hurd. The e-book tells the story of Gravy Boone, a teenage inventor living in Sawville, Indiana and he is crazy about science. His rural lab named the Barnatory is a haven for his scientific creations. With the help of his best friend Nathan, they build the Boattrain, Gravy’s most awesome creation yet. The Boattrain is an all-terrain vehicle that takes Gravy on a wild adventure as he prepares to display it at the Marion County Science Fair. The Boattrain is sure to take top prize at the fair and turn Gravy into a scientific rock star. The only thing standing in his way is nemesis Melvin Snurley who taunts him mercilessly in the weeks leading up to the fair. The rivalry tests Gravy’s intellect, creativity, and most importantly, his friendship with Nathan. Gravy must overcome his insecurities and frustrations if he plans to win top prize at the science fair and triumph over Melvin. It is an exciting adventure written across eighty-five illustrated pages that will make kids go wild for science.
The science themed novel plans to use a percentage of the proceeds to fund a new website that will teach children about S.T.E.M. concepts. The website centers on Gravy’s lab, the Barnatory, and children will be able to explore different aspects of science through interactive storytelling and gameplay. Both the book and website’s core audience are children eight to thirteen and author David Hurd hopes to plant seeds in the young minds of future inventors, scientists, and innovators. David is also web developer and plans to helm the project by developing educational games based on characters from the new book. He feels it is important to get kids excited about science at an early age and hopes the characters he has created will do so. David dreamed up the story of the teenage inventor after a chance encounter in a rural Indiana gas station. When David asked the spunky store clerk how she was that morning, she simply replied, “I’m just gravy and the boat train.” That innocuous comment ignited a spark in the author’s imagination that developed into the fictional world of Sawville, Indiana, the small farming town where Gravy Boone explores the boundaries of science from inside the Barnatory. Gravy and the Boattrain is available now exclusively for Kindle devices and also IOS and Android Kindle Apps on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HPHLRXK. Publisher Imagitale Studios plans to expand the e-book to the Apple iBook and Barnes & Noble Nook stores in mid-April to reach more young readers who love science and adventure.
