'Sanbolic’s Melio platform is designed to enable distributed computing while providing software-defined storage features and application availability,' said Momchil Michailov, CEO of Sanbolic.

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) January 28, 2014

Sanbolic announced today that its distributed storage controller and application availability platform, Melio, is now available as an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) via AWS Marketplace for Microsoft SQL Server deployments. The Melio AMI includes Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition. Clustering SQL Server using Melio provides high availability for business-critical workloads on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform.

The Melio AMI is designed to be deployed as a multi-instance cluster using shared block storage such Zadara or NetApp, which are available via the AWS Marketplace. Melio also provides the option of creating highly available shared block storage targets from the internal storage of Amazon EC2 instances by using Melio’s software-defined storage features. These targets can incorporate Amazon EC2 instances that span AWS available zones. The Melio software platform provides enterprise storage and data management features such as dynamic scale-out, RAID, remote replication, quality of Service (QoS), intelligent data placement, and snapshots.

All SQL Servers in the cluster have active-active access to the block storage volumes. Melio’s AppCluster component provides the clustering service for the SQL Server running on Amazon EC2 instances, delivering both high availability and policy-based workload distribution across the cluster at the database or database group level.

“Sanbolic’s Melio platform is designed to enable distributed computing while providing software-defined storage features and application availability,” said Momchil Michailov, CEO of Sanbolic. “Our software provides the same functionality whether running on premise or in the AWS cloud, making it simple for customer to move SQL Server database applications onto AWS to reduce cost, expand capacity or to ensure availability.”
