Celebrating 50 Years of Providing HR Consulting Services
(PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- Portnoy, Messinger, Pearl & Associates (PMP) has been providing employers with full service HR consulting for the last 50 years. The company was founded in 1964 by Murray Portnoy, who used his experience as a union organizer and workers’ rights advocate to help PMP offer a unique perspective as advocates for management. PMP provides human resources and labor relations consulting to a broad spectrum of clients in the public and private sector, union and non-union, and to small local businesses, as well as to multinational Fortune 500 companies.
Serving companies nationwide, PMP’s HR consultants and attorneys have evolved with the times to help clients meet the demands of today’s business culture and changing laws and regulations. “We have expanded the range of services we offer our clients to include defending employment charges and adversarial proceedings, training, onsite human resources, affirmative action, recruitment and outplacement, EEO and wage and hour compliance,” said PMP President Mark Portnoy, who joined the firm in 1974.
Mark remembers his father launching PMP at a time when the labor movement was fresh on the minds of business people and the country was still in shock over the assassination of President John. F. Kennedy.
“My father was a union organizer and his retirement dinner from the union took place on November 22, 1963,” Mark said. “None of us can remember what happened at the dinner because we were all in a state of shock. I still have the watch my father got that night with that date on it.”
Now, as president, Mark is striving to maintain PMP’s position as the top firm in its field. “We are going to continue to be available to management and responsive to the changing workplace environment. We are very proud of our long standing reputation for innovative, quality work.”
“We are also very proud that many clients who came to PMP 50 years ago are still with us,” said PMP Executive Vice President Grace Conti. “We work with clients who have as few as three employees to our largest client with over 55,000 employees — and we provide the same service to each client with the same vigor.”
PMP ensures compliance and provides trustworthy support to its clients, noted PMP Director of HR Consulting Rita DiStefano. “Clients can call us any time they have an issue,” she said. “Our team provides a family atmosphere and we are available 24/7 — and I am not so sure this type of dedicated service is out there very much anymore.”
A dedicated team, some of whom have been working together for decades themselves, and the wide range of services offered, keeps PMP steadfast and strong. “I think what really makes us unique is we are a nationwide company not just focused on Long Island”, said PMP Director of HR Consulting Barbara DeMatteo. “Being able to support companies across the United States has added to our success. Because of our nurturing team environment and because of the expertise from each of the individuals on our team, as well as our ability to work together, we really add a lot of value to our clients.”
