The staff at Specialty Surgical Center recently completed a prestigious safety training retreat through the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety at Johns Hopkins University. Specialty Surgical Center plans to make modern changes to their current patient safety protocols by looking at ‘the Science of Safety’. Their surgeons are specially trained in both invasive and non-invasive procedures, and will continue to display patient protection through their newly developed safety program.
Offering the highest quality of outpatient care, the staff of Specialty Surgical Center consists of board certified surgeons and anesthesiologists in the fields of orthopedics, sports medicine, spinal care, urology, pain management, ENT, hand surgery, lithotripsy, brachytherapy, GYN, and laser surgery. Specialty Surgical Center has performed thousands of successful surgeries, and expects that their ongoing approach to safety can continue to give patients the tools for speedy recoveries.
The John Hopkins convention covered the importance of adopting safety measures through taking a distinctive approach to ensure efficacy. Instead of addressing problems as they arise, medical teams will work toward forecasting issues and implementing prevention protocols before they ever occur. Speakers at the retreat say when an error occurs, medical teams should look at the full system and see why there was an error and ask, “Did it lead to distractions or cognitive overload?” Specialty Surgical Center is implementing these full process changes to be effective immediately in their new safety program.
Specialty Surgical Center’s commitment to patient safety inspired the creation of their newly developed CUSP team (Comprehensive Unit Based Safety Program). This team is set to monitor safety protocol and take a proactive stand against potential injuries and/or complications at the center. Based on continual evidence of the safety protocol program’s efficacy, Specialty Surgical Center is confident that they can provide better patient care and services. Instead of working harder to make up for mistakes, the team will work smarter. Their team is currently surveying the safety culture and making immediate changes.
