Since posture can have a major impact on how we live, the solution to a healthier lifestyle seems to be less sitting and more overall movement, to change how we feel.

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 28 January 2014

According to NHS, one of the leading causes for many of the chronic health issues plaguing the UK today, including cardiovascular disease, obesity and increased instances of high blood pressure, sugar levels and cholesterol, is the sedentary lifestyle taking over society today. Along with regularly spending five hours or more at the desk each day, most relaxing activities also involve being seated, increasing the daily total of inactivity to an alarming rate.

But the toll of sitting for so many hours not only causes these chronic health issues; it also changes the muscular and skeletal structure of the body. Add more stress then you can handle and you add tension to muscles that are already in poor condition. This results in decreased muscular strength and poor posture, effecting the shoulders and neck, lower back, and leg muscles. These muscles affect the blood flow to the neck and back, creating pain and respiratory problems. The obvious solution would be to increase the amount of movement, allowing for regular breaks, and to spend part of the working hours standing instead of sitting

Since posture can have a major impact on how we live, the solution to a healthier lifestyle seems to be less sitting and more overall movement, to change how we feel. You might start by getting a standing desk, to simply introduce standing rather than sitting, and since your goal is more movement, don't stop at standing. Include activities throughout the office routine that encourages office workers to breathe deeply and maintain good posture.

An added benefit to increased muscle activity is that increasing daily activity will also trigger the metabolic processes related to the dissolving fats and sugars within the body. Inactivity causes your body to slow down while action increases your health, digestion, weight loss, alertness and overall productivity. So, get out of those office chairs and increase the quality of your life and your work!
