Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP announced the promotion of associates Lawrence E. James, Jr. and Gregory J. Leighton to the firm’s partnership, effective January 1, 2014.

James, a registered patent attorney, is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Transactions practice group. He focuses his practice on litigating patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright and unfair competition matters before the U.S. federal courts, the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Board of Patent Appeals and the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. James earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, and his law degree from the DePaul University College of Law.

Leighton, a registered patent attorney, is also a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Transactions practice group. He focuses his practice on both patent prosecution and the protection and enforcement of various forms of intellectual property. One key focus of Leighton’s practice is controversies regarding intellectual property rights in the chemical and life sciences areas. Leighton earned his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, and his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
