According to statistics from the Department of Geosciences at San Francisco State University, a baby dies approximately every 9 days due to heat exposure from being left in a vehicle. Hard-working, loving parents go through this unimaginable tragedy every year because of an accidental memory lapse or overwhelming schedule. Parents and caretakers haven't had a backup plan or safety net to protect their babies from this, until now. The Busy Bee safety device is the simple, affordable solution that will ensure parents will never have to live through this unforgettable accident.
The Busy Bee is a extremely simple and affordable device that, if used properly, will always ensure the first thing on a driver's mind is the baby in the back seat. The Busy Bee is a small cover that fits over a common car key as well as one of the prong buckles on a car seat. When the vehicle is not in use, the Busy Bee is stored over one of the car seat buckles. This is for two reasons. The first is so the Busy Bee is not misplaced. The second being that the driver is forced to use it each time a baby is placed in their car seat, or else it blocks the buckle from being properly secured.
Once the Busy Bee is taken off of the car seat buckle, and the baby is securely fastened in the car seat, the driver simply slides their key into the cover, letting the notched end of the key come out of the slit in the bottom of the Busy Bee. The driver is still able to use the key as normal.
Now when the driver parks their vehicle and goes to turn it off, the cover is there for them to both see and feel, sparking their memory and reminding them that their baby is in the car seat. The Busy Bee utilizes memory association and recognition, linking the device solely with placing the baby in the car seat.
The Busy Bee was made to be affordable for all families as well as technology free. This is so a technical problem will never result in the malfunction of the device. It was created after Joe Bencar, an entrepreneur and inventor, heard multiple tragic stories about parents accidentally forgetting their baby in a hot car. Joe wanted to develop an easy way to make sure busy and hard working parents always have a backup plan.
"Think of the Busy Bee as a seat belt for your memory. These days, parents are busier than ever. Days can be hectic and routines are always changing. My goal was to create a solution that was easy to use to where anyone could learn in 30 seconds or less, no matter if it's the grandparents, babysitter, or another family member or friend. The Busy Bee is not only a device, but also a way to raise awareness that these accidents do happen to normal, responsible parents. I've heard responses from parents saying they would never, ever forget their child....and most don't! But this still happens every year and has for decades, and I want to bring that number down to zero."
