Stuart Hatton Jnr is a men’s underwear model, professional dancer and teacher, and now also Mr Gay UK. Today he was back at Deadgoodundies.com - which ships underpants, boxers and briefs, along with men’s swimwear, loungewear, beachwear, tops, T-shirts and homewear around the world - for his latest photoshoot.
“It’s great to be back at DGU,” said Stuart, who’s had a rollercoaster ride of publicity since he won the Mr Gay UK contest in November ahead of some 240 hopefuls. His winning pants that day were Mundo Unico briefs presented to him by Deadgoodundies.
Deadgoodundies.com partner Adam Davies always welcomes Stuart because the two have fun during a shoot. As Adam explains: “This guy is from the North East of England, so he has that wonderful Geordie accent and a great sense of humour. You just have to see his Facebook page or the video clips Stuart does with his friend’s puppet Billy Bob Joe Jnr to enjoy a smile. The puppet’s reaction to him winning Mr Gay UK is epic!”
Stuart will be kept very busy this year with his Mr Gay UK commitments, including heading to Vienna in the summer to represent Great Britain in the Mr Gay Europe competition. If he wins that, the next stop is Mr Gay World in the USA.
Back home in South Shields, Stuart runs the family dance studios, the Hatton Academy of Dance, where he first took to the floor at the tender age of 13 months. He also works alongside presenter Ron Cameron for his show on South Tyneside Radio - and Stuart was the ‘motion capture guy’ for the video game Just Dance 2014.
Dance teaching keeps him fit, but Stuart also works out every morning with his personal trainer Grant Henson.
Today, Stuart was modelling new Mundo Unico designer underwear for men at DGU. Asked about the best reaction he had received to his Mr Gay UK win, there was no hesitation.
“I got an email from a young man of 20 who wanted to come out but was scared of telling his parents. I encouraged him to tell them. He did and his mum already knew!”
Mr Gay UK won’t be giving up underwear modelling any time soon. Apart from anything else he gets to try lots of different styles and colours, but Stuart is sure of his favourites: “I love all the Ergowear and Bruno Banani designs and I tend to wear tight briefs for my dance work - that way I don’t get too many wedgies!”
