Los Altos, Calif. and Framingham, Mass. (PRWEB) February 04, 2014
In Case Of Emergency (ICE) Standard, providers of the number one emergency medical contact information application for Smartphone’s, and Rave Mobile Safety, creators of the acclaimed national public safety service, Smart911, today announced the completion and integration of the ICE Standard with Smart911 App for Apple iPhone and iPad to enhance the availability of life saving information to emergency first responders.
”Today ICE Standard with Smart911App for Apple iPhone and iPad is the only free Emergency Medical Contact Information App that allows you to be connected directly to the Smart911 national database, “said Joseph Ekman, CEO and founder of In Case Of Emergency, a division of About The Kids Foundation.
Smart911, automatically provides 9-1-1 dispatchers and first responders at participating 9-1-1 Centers with critical information in the event of a 9-1-1 call, while the ICE Standard App presents medical and personal information to on-site response personnel through an innovative smartphone application and wallet card. By integrating the services, medical information entered into the ICE Standard App is not only available to responders on-site via the user’s smartphone, it is also automatically delivered via Smart911 to dispatcher workstations whenever they make an emergency call to a supported Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP).
“Smart911 and ICE Standard share a commitment to creating and developing cutting edge technology in public safety. There’s a lack of adequate, easy accessible medical data in critical care circumstances, and together we’re overcoming this issue,” commented Ekman, “This integration breakthrough ensures critical citizen-provided data will be available at each stage of emergency response. We created the In case Of Emergency Standard division based on my own experience with having heart surgery. The integration of Smart911 and ICE Standard App will help others who face special medical conditions or any number of other life threatening issues.”
The App was created based on a research paper titled “In Case Of Emergency Standard” that Ekman wrote while attending University of San Francisco.
“The implementation of Smart911 in Suffolk County (NY) is a common sense emergency measure which allows for efficient deployment of personnel and resources during critical situations,” said Suffolk County Executive, Steve Bellone. “Any information you can have in the event of a medical or mass casualty incident can greatly aid the response process. Between Suffolk County’s deployment of Smart911 and the integration with ICE Standard, our emergency responders will be better prepared to respond to emergencies having access to critical information about patients.”
Since its introduction, Smart911 has grown rapidly and is now available in 35 states and more than 450 municipalities. With Smart911, citizens create Safety Profiles online that contain details about their household they want 9-1-1 to have during an emergency. When a citizen places a 9-1-1 call, their Safety Profile is displayed to call-taker and data can be immediately relayed to teams in the field for a better understanding of a situation and more effective emergency response. Fire crews can know such things as how many people live at a home and the location of bedrooms. EMS can know about specific medical conditions for fast, precise medical treatment. And because profiles contain photos, in the event of a missing child, police can gain an advantage be receiving an image in seconds versus hours.
The ICE Standard App has a special feature on a smartphone lock screen which displays a person’s updated medical information, emergency/medical contacts, medical insurance information, blood type, name, address and photo verification of the individual. The App has a unique feature that uses color coding to reflect the severity of medical information. Red indicates an individual has severe allergies, medical devices, health conditions, or is on medications. Yellow indicates the individual is taking medications. Green indicates the user does not have any health complications and is “Good To Go”. The color coding helps first responders quickly determine the severity of potential issues with the patient.
“We are broadening the sources of data available through Smart911 by integrating the foremost emergency medical contact information App,” said Tom Axbey, CEO of Rave Mobile Safety. “Smart911 and the ICE Standard App, through Smat911 Connect, will provide public safety agencies and the citizens they serve a unique way to enhance communications, and ultimately, improve the level of emergency response services throughout a situation. We look forward to this partnership further helping first responders avert tragedy and save lives.”
