SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Market™: A Spectacular Native American Arts and Culture Event
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- The Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA) will celebrate its 93rd year of the Santa Fe Indian Market™ on August 23-24, 2014. This spectacular festival brings over 175,000 people to Santa Fe every August with its unique, exciting and inspiring events. From families with young children to avid art collectors, Indian Market Week™ attracts visitors from all walks of life. Most events are free and open to the public. Santa Fe Indian Market™ 2014 will be the experience of a lifetime.
The Santa Fe Indian Market™ brings premier Native artists representing over 250 tribes from the U.S. and Canada to Santa Fe. These world-class artists show stunning pieces of art in diverse and innovative forms of media. Their work covers 14 downtown city blocks with over 600 artist booths. Indian Market Week™ encompasses a broad range of cultural activities and official events, including the Indian Market Launch Party, film screenings, the Native American Clothing Contest, and the Live Auction Gala. Native dance, music, and performances take place throughout the weekend. The Indian Market also features a vast selection of traditional and contemporary Native foods.
The Indian Market has both contemporary appeal and a rich historical legacy: for 93 years, the Indian Market has been the source for authentic Native artwork and an educational resource for Native art and culture. Additionally, the Indian Market has provided a vehicle of personal and cultural sustainability for Native artists. It is an opportunity for Native people to represent themselves to the world and build lasting relationships, positively affecting and redefining Native identity.
Visitors learn about Native art and culture by having the unique opportunity to talk directly with artists at their booths. The 2014 Santa Fe Indian Market™ and Indian Market Week™ will provide an enriching experience for every visitor, whether they are visiting the market for the first time or are back to celebrate year after year.
SWAIA is a non-profit organization, and keeps no portion of artist sales.
