Airstream Innovations Structures Certified by UDSA to Protect Citrus Industry
Solana Beach, CA (PRWEB) February 02, 2014 -- Airstream Innovations, Inc has announced that the USDA has certified their unique half-acre and full one-acre commercial tunnel greenhouses to protect citrus crops on commercial farms in Central and Southern California from Huanglongbing, one of the most devastating citrus diseases in the world, which is carried by the Asian citrus pysllid.
The Asian citrus pysllid that carries the disease has been found throughout California as well as Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina and Texas. The bacteria itself is not really harmful to humans, but the disease has also harmed trees in Asia, Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Brazil and others so the need for crop protection is global and growing in importance.
Airstream Innovations founder David Chelf invented the world’s first wind-assisted, positive pressure commercial growing structure, and he believes that the unique design of his commercial greenhouses brings crop protection and benefits that commercial farms really need to compete in today’s complex global business environment. “Our unique positive pressure design insures that the Asian citrus psyllid and the disease they carry cannot destroy valuable citrus crops. Now that the USDA has certified our commercial greenhouses in California, we are ready expand our footprint in the USA and around the world,” said Chelf.
Airstream Innovations customers are also pretty excited about the results they are getting from these unique USDA certified structures. Bob Zuckerman who owns B and Z Nursery in Porterville, CA now has nine of the unique commercial structures in operation and one more being installed. “Overall the Airstream greenhouses provide enhanced growth in a positive pressure protected structure that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements, at a fraction of the cost and build time of conventional greenhouses adding a month or more to both ends of the growing season,” said Zuckerman.
Plans for Airstream Innovations’ expansion in the United States and around the world is not just limited to the Citrus industry. The unique benefits of Airstream Innovations structures also brings enhanced year-round growing cycles and protection to varied commercial farming operations in any climate while handling winds up to 80 miles per hour. Organic farms can also depend on the unique protections provided by these innovative structures which enable organic growers to harvest highly tasty fruits and vegetables without costly Insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides used in non-organic food production.
