Piedmont’s Marcus Heart Valve Center Partners with HeartValveSurgery.com
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- Piedmont’s Marcus Heart Valve Center has become the newest sponsor of HeartValveSurgery.com, the largest educational resource and community of patients with heart valve disease.
“We are honored to announce this relationship with Piedmont’s Marcus Heart Valve Center,” said Adam Pick, founder of HeartValveSurgery.com.
Piedmont’s Marcus Heart Valve Center officially opened its doors earlier this month and was established with the help of a $20 million grant from the Marcus Foundation in Atlanta, Georgia.
“What sets this new center apart is the fact we've combined excellence in heart valve care with a seamless patient experience,” said Federico Milla, M.D., medical director of Piedmont’s Marcus Heart Valve Center. "Here, patients receive comprehensive heart valve care under one roof and, often times, within the same visit. Patients and their families can rest assured knowing there is a nurse navigator there to assist them through their appointments and understand what's going on at all times."
Before coming to Piedmont, Dr. Milla practiced at the Mitral Valve Center at Mount Sinai Hospital, which performs the most mitral heart valve surgeries in the world. Recently, HeartValveSurgery.com launched a new Heart Valve Clinic Microsite featuring Dr. Milla and Piedmont’s Marcus Heart Valve Center. The microsite provides a simple interface with multimedia capabilities to help patients and caregivers learn about the center’s unique valvular competencies, surgeons, patient success stories and more. “Teaming up with HeartValveSurgery.com is a natural fit in the evolution and roll-out of the educational initiatives at Piedmont’s Marcus Heart Valve Center,” said Dr. Milla, who has performed over 40 procedures since joining Piedmont in July 2013. “We are very excited to launch this partnership.”
Nearly five million Americans are diagnosed with heart valve disease each year, according to the American Heart Association. Symptoms include shortness of breath, weakness or dizziness, chest pain or palpitations and swollen ankles, feet or abdomen. Sometimes, patients do not experience symptoms at all.
