The ability to help our patients cope with the painful events that drove them to abuse alcohol and drugs in the first place would be a great asset to us.
Stuart, FL (PRWEB) February 05, 2014
Aid in Recovery, one of South Florida’s premier drug and alcohol treatment centers, released a statement today commenting on a new study involving the use of an epigenetic drug in treating anxiety.
The study (Epigenetic Priming of Memory Updating during Reconsolidation to Attenuate Remote Fear Memories, 1/16/2014) which was published in Volume 156, Issue 1 of Cell, tested the effects of an epigenetic (enduring but reversible changes in the pattern of gene activity) drug on traumatic and stress-based memories.
The study found that using epigenetic HDAC2-targeting inhibitors proved successful in attenuating remote traumatic memories. According to the study, the implications of this finding could be realized as a treatment option for attenuating remote traumas in humans sometime in the future.
“We are very interested, and frankly fascinated by the potential implications of this study,” said Dr. Michael Lukens, Psychologist at Aid in Recovery. “Trauma and stress are two of the most common root causes of drug and alcohol addiction, as well as two of the biggest triggers for relapses among recovering addicts.”
The clinical professionals and staff at Aid in Recovery pride themselves on keeping up with the latest scientific research into anything that could potentially have a positive impact on their patients. “Anything that opens the door for new treatment options in the future is of great interest to us,” said Dr. Michael Lukens. “The ability to help our patients cope with the painful events that drove them to abuse alcohol and drugs in the first place would be a great asset to us.”
Aid in Recovery is a premier drug and alcohol treatment center. Our approach is defined by recognizing each clients need for a personalized drug and alcohol treatment program. We aren't a hospital-like institution and there’s a good reason for that. We believe that treating each client as an individual is crucial to delivering the best possible patient care. At a busy clinic-like program, it simply isn't possible for a therapist to truly get to know each client and understand their specific needs. To best meet the needs of each patient we treat, we offer a diverse curriculum with a focus on both mind and body designed to meet the individual. We treat every patient as an individual and we work with one patient at a time and guide them to a new life in recovery.
