Community Leaders Celebrate the Central Valley at 66th Annual Prayer Breakfast
Fresno, CA (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- Join our local business and community leaders in celebration of the Central Valley 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Fresno’s Valdez Hall for the 66th Annual Fresno/Clovis Prayer Breakfast.
“This community tradition celebrates our blessings as a community and upholds our public officials in prayer as they carry out their duties,” said committee chairman, Don Eskes (Fresno Rescue Mission).
Dr. Pete Menjares, currently serving as the 11th President of Fresno Pacific University, and his wife, Virginia, will keynote with inspirational messages, much like the humble beginnings of what has become one of the valley’s largest annual community gatherings.
The annual Prayer Breakfast began in the 1940’s when five businessmen started meeting at a Divisadero Street restaurant for prayer and fellowship. Today, the event draws Christians of all backgrounds from the Fresno and Clovis communities and has spanned the terms of eleven Fresno mayors. The event has grown to include Clovis mayors and keynote speakers from all experiences, such as pastors, public servants, judges, sports figures, community activists and community leaders like Dr. Menjares.
Dr. Menjares began as a public school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he taught middle school for seven years. He then served for 18 years as a faculty member in the School of Education and as Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Academic Effectiveness at Biola Universty. He earned a Ph.D. from the Univeristy of Southern California in Education with a specialization in Language, Literacy and Learning. In 2005, Dr. Menjares was awarded the Robert B. Fischer Award for Faculty Excellence, the highest honor given by the Biola University faculty.
