Animal and Book Lovers Will Love Books for Animal Lovers
Exeter, NH (PRWEB) February 06, 2014 -- Playing David to Amazon’s Goliath, a new online bookstore has been launched: Books for Animal Lovers (http://www.booksforanimallovers.com). As the name indicates, the online e-tailer offers books on dogs, cats, horses, birds, and other creatures, as well as gifts for animal lovers. Some titles are independent, lesser known books, some are bestsellers. Whatever strikes the fancy of the site’s owner, Ms. Jeremy Townsend, gets included.
To launch the site, Townsend also has offered great deals, including discounts, free gifts with purchases, free gifts just for registering, web exclusives, etc. But perhaps the neatest aspect is the blog, called “What’s New,” (http://booksforanimallovers.com/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=latest&Itemid=225) which includes personal essays about beloved pets, reviews of books by Townsend and her readers, and information about important animal events and charities.
Townsend also donates a percentage of profits to animal charities, whom she lists on the site.
“I’m counting on people out there who still prefer ‘tree’ books to e-books, and who appreciate the benefits of buying from an independent bookstore, rather than a larger, impersonal entity,” Townsend says. Townsend believes that just as many smaller bricks-and-mortar stores have survived the industry’s revolution, small online booksellers can also compete.
The concept of Books for Animal Lovers is based on a direct mail business Townsend ran in the pre-Internet days of yore. “I was publishing books then as well,” she says, “and printed up a monthly catalog offering my titles as well as some select books from other publishers.” That business, though very small, did well, and Townsend loved the interaction with customers, often spending an hour on the phone talking about their beloved pets. Now much of that interaction is through social media.
Keeping overhead low, and holding a small inventory will allow Books for Animal Lovers to offer good books for low prices. But equally important is the accessibility of the site and the owner. “I’m always grateful to hear of causes that need attention and books that should be offered. I want to hear from readers out there.”
Books for Animal Lovers is based in Exeter, NH, and was launched in December of 2013.
