Leading restaurant furniture manufacturer and distributor Restaurant recently helped The Cabin Restaurant in Gonzales, LA update its seating. Located in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, Gonzales is known the "Jambalaya Capital of the World".

The Cabin Restaurant is unique in all the world. It began as one of the ten original slave dwellings of the Monroe Plantation. It is approximately 180 years old. As one looks around upon entering, the Cabin gives off an aura of authenticity and realism. The original cypress roof is still visible from inside, and even the spider webs of 100 years ago are still clinging to the ceiling. The walls are papered with ancient newspaper fixed to the walls with a mixture of flour and water. This was the way the slaves insulated the walls of the original slave dwelling. Hanging from practically every nook and cranny are antique farm implements and tools of years gone by. The original floor in the main cabin has been replaced with pine flooring from the commissary at the Welham Plantation in Convent.

The main dining room built onto the back of the Cabin was designed to resemble a garconnier (the visiting bachelor’s quarters on a River Road plantation) opens via French doors to a brick courtyard surrounded by two more slave cabins, both from the Helvetia Plantation, and dominated by the Schoolhouse, the restored first Black Catholic School in Louisiana, built in 1865 by the sisters of the Sacred Heart. Back in the main dining room, the roof is supported by four massive beams that were manufacturer’s rejects obtained for a bottle of Old Crow bourbon.

Durable, comfortable seating was very important for the owner of The Cabin Restaurant, so he opted to go with Restaurant's Schoolhouse Wood Chair in black finish. The Schoolhouse Wood Chairs sell for $61. The Schoolhouse Wood Chair also comes with a matching bar stool bar which sells for $77. This American classic has been utilized by Restaurant's customers in a number of different settings. Its comfort and elegant styling have made it a favorite for casual indoor dining, bars, bistros and shops. Like the other wood chairs and bar stools and chairs Restaurant carries, it comes in 5 standard finishes or a finish can be custom made for an additional cost. Customers have the option of choosing a saddle-shaped wood seat or an American made padded seat in vinyl or fabric available in a variety of colors. A custom made seat can also be made for an additional cost.

The Schoolhouse Wood Chairs are proudly made in the USA, as are many of its other wood chairs, bar stools and tables. "Buying American made furniture to help the economy was important to the owner," said David M., Restaurant salesperson. Restaurant is renowned for its high quality commercial seating, which is all subject to rigorous testing to meet the high standards of BIFMA (Business Institutional Manufacturers Association) and manufactures its own furniture.
