Fairfield Theatre Company Hosts Grammy Award Winner Steve Earle
Fairfield, CT (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 -- Fairfield Theatre Company consistently brings the best entertainment to Connecticut and will continue to do so at 8 p.m. on Feb. 7 as they will host legendary guitarist Steve Earle at the Norwalk Concert Hall.
A protégé of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, Earle quickly became a master storyteller in his own right and his songs have been recorded by some of the top entertainers in the world, including Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Travis Tritt, The Pretenders, Joan Baez and countless others.
Born in Fort Monroe, Virginia, but raised near San Antonio, Texas, Earle received his first guitar at the age of 11 and, by the time he was 13, had become proficient enough to win a school-sponsored talent contest. Despite his focus on music, he proved to be a wild child, and often got into trouble with local authorities. With his rebellious attitude, long-haired appearance and anti-Vietnam War stance, Earle was scorned by local country fans.
After completing the eighth grade, Earle dropped out of school and, at the age of 16, left home with his uncle and began traveling across the state, eventually settling in Houston at the age of 18, where he began working odd jobs until he moved to Nashville.
During his days in Nashville, Earle worked blue-collar jobs during the day and at night would write songs and played bass in Guy Clark's backing band. Having eventually grown tired of the city, Earle returned to Texas, where he assembled a backing band called the Dukes and began playing local clubs.
With his recording career going nowhere, Earle lost his publishing contract with Dea and Carter and signed instead with Silverline Goldline, who helped him release his debut album, Guitar Town, in 1986 with MCA. Although Earle was grouped into the new traditionalist movement begun by Dwight Yoakam and Randy Travis, he gained the attention of rock critics and fans who saw similarities between Earle's populist sentiments and the heartland rock of Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp. Guitar Town became a hit, with its title track becoming a Top 10 single in the summer of 1986 and "Goodbye's All We've Got Left" reaching the Top 10 in early 1987.
Having recently released his 15th studio album, The Low Highway, to worldwide critical acclaim, the Grammy Award-winning guitarist, singer, actor, and writer now comes to the Norwalk Concert Hall for an intimate show on Feb.7. Earl brings his poetic spirit and cinematic energy to FTC’s new venue for a night that will feature songs spanning his entire career; special for any fan of country, rockabilly and music writers alike.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. for the Feb. 7 concert with the show to begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are between $27 and $47 in advance with a membership discount between $2 and $4.
