Florida Hospital Tampa, through its Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute, will present “Heart Health Awareness” night during the Tampa Bay Lightning home game on Thursday, February 6 at The Forum. The puck drops at 7:30pm as the Bolts “face-off” against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Today, heart disease claims more lives every year than all cancers combined. Education and prevention are key components in the fight to save lives. Florida Hospital Tampa is the Proud Health and Wellness Partner for the Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Times Forum. Together, we are elevating health care for the Tampa Bay community.

“Cardiovascular disease is still the number one killer of men and women in the United States, more than all cancers combined. Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute is dedicated to providing the highest level of care and saving the hearts of Tampa Bay. We are leading the way in the region by offering the very latest in groundbreaking procedures and pioneering research right here at Pepin Heart Institute,” says Dr. Charles Lambert, Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute Medical Director. Dr. Lambert will be interviewed on the pre-game Sun Sports Network show during Heart Health Awareness night. Also during the game, public service announcements about the signs and symptoms of a heart attack will air on the scoreboard. Heart health tips will also be posted around the concourse, educating fans and encouraging interaction and engagement. The first 3,000 fans will receive co-branded scarfs on their way into the game.

Florida Hospital Tampa provides the Lightning players with pre-season physicals including MRI’s, X-Rays and vaccinations as well as providing on-site X-ray equipment and on-site medical services during home games, and the Lightning training camp.

“We are proud to once again partner with Florida Hospital to promote awareness of cardiovascular disease here in Tampa Bay,” said Lightning Chief Operating Officer, Steve Griggs. “Education is the first step in prevention and through programs such as Heart Health Awareness night, we, along with our friends at Florida Hospital, hope to make Tampa Bay a safer and healthier place to live.”

Florida Hospital Tampa is also the presenting sponsor of the Get Fit with Dave Andreychuk program with the Thunderbug Kid’s Club and a sponsor of the 13th Annual Bolt Run in March. The inaugural “Get Fit Skate Day” will take place at The Forum on February 9th from 11am to 1pm. Thunderbug Kid’s Club members will be invited to an exclusive skate and opportunity to be part of the Get Fit with Dave Andreychuk program. Eight lucky winners will win an exciting chance to train with the Captain of the 2004 Stanley Cup Tampa Bay Lightning team.

Tampa Bay Sports and Entertainment, LLC
The 2004 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the leasehold rights to the Tampa Bay Times Forum were purchased by an entity controlled by Jeffrey Vinik in March, 2010. Shortly thereafter, Vinik also purchased the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. Since acquiring these assets, Vinik has spearheaded a complete brand and business transformation of the teams and the arena under the banner of Tampa Bay Sports and Entertainment, LLC. The Lightning advanced to the Eastern Conference Final of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2011 and the Times Forum received a $42 million renovation later that summer. During the summer of 2012, the organization installed a new center-hung scoreboard that is one of the largest of its kinds in North America. Under the new ownership and management group, the fans have responded, more than doubling the team’s season ticket base. Additionally, the Lightning sold out 21 of their 24 home games during the 2012-13 regular season.
