Jay Ryan, one of the entrepreneurs behind a new collection of jewelry for singles, says February is no longer just about couples -- lesser-known holidays celebrating self-love and singlehood are gaining momentum.
“It’s great if you’ve got your special someone this Valentine’s Day, but there are millions of people who’ve been taught to feel that they’re somehow inadequate if they don’t have a romantic partner on Feb. 14th,” says Ryan, who notes three other February holidays go hand in hand with their new collection of jewelry for singles designed to make a powerful statement of self love and appreciation.
Feb. 11th is Satisfied Staying Single Day, which gives singles a few days to head off noise from Valentine’s Day. BreakupGems.com’s Status collection offers a fun way to mark the occasion and share your status with the world. Crafted in sterling silver, the line also includes engraved messages with your current relationship status, such as Free, Single & Available.
Feb. 13th is Madly In Love With Me Day, originally created in 2007 as part of an international self-love movement. Ryan suggests jewelry for singles to commemorate the day in a meaningful way. The “I Love Me” ring has been a major hit since its introduction, Ryan says.
“We place a lot of importance on being accepted by other people; sometimes it nice just to say I love me, too!” he says. “Our jewelry puts perspective on the breakup of a romance, which is painful enough without the societal pressure to be part of a couple. Something solid, like a gold band with a symbolic break in it, can help the newly single mark an ending and celebrate a new beginning.”
The big day, Feb. 14, is not exclusively for lovers; it’s also National Call In Single Day, and calling in lovesick doesn’t count. For this holiday, singles are encouraged to take the day off work and enjoy a day exclusively for them, Ryan says.
“Whether you want to call it Valentine’s Day, National Call In Single Day or any other day from the calendar, the bottom line is it's important to love yourself first.
