Has America’s movement toward secular values led to its decline?
With “Christianity: Lifeblood of America’s Free Society (1620-1945),” Dr. John Howard narrates the development of America as a Christian society, which has led to three centuries of success and blessings for the American people. According to Howard, the contrast between the pious, family-oriented society of the New England colonists and today’s culture of self-centered ego is striking.
Now, it is time for the new generations to step up and ensure that America maintains its status as a powerful Christian society. Christian culture is under attack from both non-Christian extremists and secular values, pushing Christianity from the cultural marketplace of ideas. Presenting the individuals, philosophies, organizations and failures responsible for this meltdown, Howard hopes that Christianity’s history of courage, sacrifice and love will inspire Americans to rediscover and embrace the Christian culture.
According to Howard, the prosperous American society as we know it would not be able to survive - much less thrive - without Christianity. He emphasizes the importance of the impact of Christian culture, especially on children. The Christian influence on the morals of the world’s youth can make all the difference in the direction of their lives.
“The solid Christianity, which inspired us to be ‘The Greatest Generation’ is now under attack,” says Howard. “I profoundly hope that Christianity’s history will inspire modern Americans to rediscover and embrace the spirit of preceding generations.”
According to Dr. Howard, Christianity is deliberately omitted from history and it is vitally important to see the influence of God in every aspect of life. He challenges readers to take a stand by beginning the reconstruct the free society that once flourished in our country.
