Waltham, Mass. (PRWEB) February 07, 2014
National Grid today announced its sponsorship of Greentown Labs, one of the nation’s largest cleantech incubators. The $50,000 “Terawatt” sponsorship level will enable Greentown Labs to further provide its entrepreneurs access to the equipment, services, education, and network they need to launch their companies.
“National Grid is pleased to support Greentown Labs and help boost the local area’s presence as a cleantech hub,” said Marcy Reed, president of National Grid in Massachusetts. “Clean energy is a top priority for National Grid. What’s more, as a member of this community, it’s in our best interest to support new local businesses—especially those that are at the cutting edge of the innovation and technology needed to solve the country’s energy and environmental problems.”
Greentown Labs, which offers a collaborative workspace for cleantech companies, recently moved from its former spot in South Boston to its new and expanded location at 28 Dane Street in Somerville, Mass. The new building offers 33,000 sq. ft. of prototyping lab and co-located office space, a shared machine and electronics shop, immersion in a growing community of energy and clean technology entrepreneurs, and on-site events and programs designed to enable start-ups to rapidly grow their networks and companies.
“We are excited to be working with a company like National Grid that is at the forefront of exploring innovation in services and service delivery in an energy-constrained economy,” said Emily Reichert, Ph.D., executive director of Greentown Labs. “Thanks to their sponsorship, more entrepreneurs will be able to pursue their dreams of creating game-changing energy technologies that transform the way energy is produced and consumed.”
In recognition of the sponsorship, Greentown Labs has named a conference room after National Grid and will display the company’s logo in its hall. National Grid, in turn, has joined Greentown Lab’s advisory board and has pledged to continue its commitment by being an active participant in its events.
