Rather than complain about the abundant amount of snow on the ground, residents of Friendship Village of Schaumburg consciously and very actively embraced it. Last week, residents aged 80 and over, hit the slopes of Villa Oliva in Bartlett for their first-ever snow tubing adventure. They were joined by fellow residents from GreenFields of Geneva, along with some employees who came along for the fun.
Friendship Village of Schaumburg is Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) near Chicago, for adults ages 62 and older, offering a range of services and amenities in a vibrant community of neighbors and friends.
“There were approximately a dozen residents who braved the cold for the adventure,” said Mike McCann, director of lifestyles at Friendship Village. “We like to say that they redefine the term ‘snowbird.’”
Jeff Rose, lifestyles manager of Friendship Village said that the residents of the senior retirement community are involved in a large number and very diverse offering of events and activities. “More traditional programs include fitness, book club, arts and crafts and yoga. However the residents are often seeking more adventurous and unusual pursuits. “Our residents are active and young at heart. Tubing was a perfect way for them to enjoy the winter, and relive a favorite memory of their childhood,” said Rose.
