Announcement: BluesGuitar.com Releases “Learn to Play Blues Turnarounds in the Key of E - Blues Guitar Lesson”
(PRWEB) February 09, 2014 -- In this lead guitar lesson sample video, now available on YouTube.com, Jon MacLennan teaches how to play a Blues Turnaround lick in the key of E.
The Turnaround is used many styles of music. The Blues Turnaround or V, VI, I (5-4-1) Turnaround came from the Ragtime Blues era. The cadence of the Blues Turnaround is backwards from traditional western music. The job of the Blues Turnaround is to show the listener where the chord progression ends and starts over, it does this by ending on the V (five) of the chord progression making it want to resolve back to the I (one).
“This lick today is a nice variation and as far as learning these turnaround lines you want to learn as many of them as you can and move them around to different keys”, says MacLennan. Jon demonstrates the lick as follows; he starts off with an open 6th string and puts his first finger on the 7th fret of the 3rd string and his 3rd finger on the 9th fret of the 4th string and plays them simultaneously using the hybrid picking technique and follows this with the open first string and then the 4th and 3rd strings again. He then moves the chord shape down one half step and repeats the picking sequence and continues this moving down one half step at a time until his first finger is at the 5th fret and then he moves the chord shape to the 3rd fret and slides into the 4th fret. Next he plays the open 6th string again and finishes off the lick with a C7 chord and slides down to a B7 chord. Guitar TAB’s for this blues guitar lesson are available at BluesGuitar.com.
