Henley-Putnam University Welcomes New Dean of Academic Affairs: Academic Professional to Support University Growth
Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) February 12, 2014 -- Henley-Putnam University is pleased to announce Janice Kempster has joined the University community as Dean of Academic Affairs.
Dr. Kempster’s 15-year tenure in higher education focuses on distance education, adult learning, curriculum development, and leadership. Dr. Kempster most recently served as Dean of Distance Learning and Academic Affairs at Prescott College where she led limited-residency undergraduate and graduate programs that combine a mix of online courses, mentored-study courses, and residential events to allow adult learners to complete their degrees from within their communities.
In 2009, Dr. Kempster initiated a capstone eportfolio requirement for undergraduate students that is a model for the assessment of student learning and program effectiveness. Dr. Kempster’s knowledge in elearning methodologies is further illustrated by her early work at Prescott College to adopt a learning management system, convert course content to the online environment, and train faculty to teach online courses.
"We are fortunate to have someone with such formidable insights into student learning and student success heading our academic programs and review,” said Amanda Morrow-Jensen, Director of Outreach and Business Development for Henley-Putnam University. “As Henley-Putnam continues to grow, Jan’s experiences will be even more valuable.”
Dr. Kempster’s commitment to adult learners began in 1999 at Great Basin College where she served as English Faculty and the Director of the Academic Success Center. In this role she managed the developmental writing program and a comprehensive tutoring center. Dr. Kempster revamped the writing curriculum and converted face-to-face courses to blended courses in order to advance the technology skills and learning for the primarily at-risk student population. She also created the College’s first online writing center.
Along with her academic achievements, Dr. Kempster has been a professional river guide in the Grand Canyon and Idaho for most of her life.
As Dean of Academic Affairs at Henley-Putnam University, Dr. Kempster will lead program review efforts, assist with maintaining compliance with accrediting bodies, and work to ensure effective administration of programs.
Dr. Kempster has a Doctorate in Education and Human Resource Studies from Colorado State University, a Master’s in English from Northern Arizona University, and a Bachelor’s in English from Lewis-Clark State College.
