World’s Largest Gathering Of Outdoor Artists To Paint En Masse On The Beaches And Scenic Overlooks Of Monterey Peninsula At April Plein Air Convention
Monterey, CA (PRWEB) February 12, 2014 -- PleinAir Magazine will host the world’s largest convention for artists and outdoor painters at the Monterey Conference Center in Monterey, California, on April 7-11, 2014. The Plein Air Convention & Expo will welcome painters from all over the world, who will gather to learn from a faculty of more than 70 of the world’s top artists and Plein Air Masters. More than 700 artists are anticipated to attend the five-day conference, which features demonstrations and lectures from many of the world’s finest painters. Last year, the Plein Air Convention attracted artists from around the globe, including every U.S. state and Canada, Mexico, France, England, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia. Online registration is available now at http://www.pleinairconvention.com. This week is the last week to receive the Early Bird reduced registration fee, which is offered through Friday, February 14th.
“People come to learn and improve their skills as artists,” says PleinAir Publisher B. Eric Rhoads. “The event attracts not only beginners and first-timers who want to learn the basics, but seasoned professionals who want to improve their technique and learn to effectively market their pieces. The breathtaking natural beauty, unbeatable weather, endless painting spots, and superb accommodations of the Monterey Peninsula make this year’s Plein Air Convention a mecca for outdoor artists from all over the world. We couldn’t be more excited to join artists, collectors and gallery owners for a week of immersion in our shared passion for oil, watercolor, and pastel painting.”
The conference takes painters outdoors each day as a group to paint on location in scenic spots along the picturesque Pacific coastline in and around Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea, where instructors will offer on-location demonstrations and critiques and work with artists one-on-one. In addition to daily onstage demonstrations and lectures by artists and museum professionals, Rhoads will present three early-morning sessions of Art Marketing Boot Camp to help artists further the business aspects of their careers.
This year for the first time, the convention features an art show and sale of both faculty and attendee paintings, which will be open to the public at the Monterey Conference Center throughout the week. Also new this year are two additional stages, offering full-time programs for watercolor and pastel. The main stage will feature lectures and oil painting, plus a demo stage for artists presenting demonstrations.
“We’ve attracted the top artists in the world,” says Rhoads, “which is why people come from everywhere. It's rare to have a chance to see so many of these people paint and demonstrate their unique techniques in one place. Plus, all the faculty members are totally accessible to work with experienced painters and new painters who want to grow. There is no other event like this for painters of all levels.”
This year’s faculty includes world-renowned painters Kevin Macpherson, Joseph McGurl, Dan Gerhartz, watercolorists Alvaro Castagnet and Stewart White, and pastel painters Richard McKinley and California Art Club President Peter Adams. A one-day pre-convention Basics Course is being offered on April 7th as an option for new painters wanting to learn essentials of outdoor painting before attempting it on their own.
The 2014 Plein Air Convention will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to artist Richard Schmid, which will be followed by a presentation of his work by his daughter, Molly Schmid. A special award will also be presented to Elaine and Peter Adams for their accomplishments leading the California Art Club for the last 25 years, and an award will be presented to art historian Jean Stern of the Irvine Museum in Irvine, CA.
An Expo Hall of about 25 art vendors will provide artists with access to new art materials, paints, canvas, frames, and more.
In each of the last two years, the Plein Air Convention has broken the world’s record for the largest number of plein air painters painting together in one place simultaneously. That record is expected to be broken again this April in Monterey.
