New Reference Architecture Paper Co-Authored by LSI Reveals Next Generation VDI Appliance
(PRWEB) February 13, 2014 -- A new technical paper, co-authored by LSI, EMC ScaleIO, Supermicro and VMware, details a Reference Architecture for a powerful new virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) appliance specifically designed for VMware Horizon View™ deployments.
The companies collaborated to create a high-performance VDI platform based on PCIe® flash storage that accelerates VDI deployments, increases desktop performance and maximizes VDI density per node. The solution is far more cost-effective and less complex than most traditional SAN-based storage infrastructures since it has a minimal footprint, is highly scalable and easy to manage.
The technology behind this new appliance includes: LSI Nytro™ WarpDrive® 3.2TB PCIe® flash accelerator cards, Mellanox® ConnectX-3® 40GE NICs and Supermicro servers powered by EMC ScaleIO software. Plus, the paper provides performance metrics based on a test using the Login VSI benchmark, including:
• Support for 1,000 desktops with average user response times under one second
• Deployment of 1,000 virtual desktops in 1 hour and 28 minutes
• Simultaneously boot 1,000 virtual desktops in 12 minutes
