Bishop Fox Researchers to Demonstrate Large-Scale Attacks from No Cost Cloud Services at RSA 2014
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 12, 2014 -- Two researchers from Bishop Fox, a leading enterprise security consulting firm, will demonstrate how to abuse free cloud-based resources in an RSA Conference session. During the session, entitled “Cloud Ninja: Catch Me If You Can,” Bishop Fox researchers Oscar Salazar and Robert Ragan will reveal new methods of leveraging free computing resources to perform malicious activities such as denial-of-service attacks, large-scale port scanning, and crypto currency mining. The session will reveal how an attacker can setup unlimited free trial accounts, launch attacks on other organizations from the cloud services, and avoid getting caught.

Background: In recent years, many enterprises have begun to use public cloud services as a primary means of transmitting and storing critical data, taking advantage of improvements in efficiency and costs offered by shared infrastructure services. As the use of cloud services grows, however, it is likely that attackers will also begin to use those services as a means of launching new exploits and gaining access to customer data. Through their own research, Bishop Fox experts Rob Ragan and Oscar Salazar have uncovered some key methods that might be used by attackers to launch malicious campaigns through public cloud services. In this session, the Bishop Fox researchers will outline their findings and offer recommendations on how cloud service providers can protect themselves from these attacks.
