ConteXtream to Showcase Carrier Network Virtualization Solution at Mobile World Congress 2014
Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) February 12, 2014 -- ConteXtream, the leading Carrier-SDN solution provider, today announced that the company will be demoing ContexNet™, their Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-based network virtualization solution for service providers, at Mobile World Congress 2014. A carrier-grade, distributed SDN fabric that leverages proven virtualization and grid technologies, ContexNet enables service providers to take the first step to achieving Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) as outlined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).
“The proliferation of mobile devices, in conjunction with economic pressures, are requiring network operators to look for solutions that alleviate current network pain points and adequately prepare their networks for future challenges,” said ConteXtream CEO, Nachman Shelef. “With ContexNet, mobile service providers can cost effectively scale to meet subscriber demands and achieve an extraordinary level of network programmability, manageability and operator visibility, creating a better experience for their subscribers.”
Today’s carrier networks are built using custom appliances that are physically wired together, configured in 1+1 redundancy and provisioned to handle the highest peak of projected traffic load within the region they are installed. This approach results in severely underutilized networks and limits ability for operators to innovate with new revenue generating services. By virtualizing the network, transitioning network functions to software running on standard, low-cost commercial-off-the-self (COTS) server hardware, carriers can operate more efficiently and gain higher resource utilization at lower cost, while also increasing the speed of delivery of new capabilities and services.
ContexNet enables network operators to create a service abstraction layer on top of traditional networks, accelerating their ability to deploy new services, facilitate greater mobility and maximize network efficiency. In addition, ContexNet allows service providers to scale services up or down and use local and remote resources on demand, giving the network operator greater control over service delivery and how resources are leveraged. Furthermore, the solution allows for a reduction in network CAPEX and OPEX by enabling for various network operations to be automated. The solution, which was deployed last year by a U.S. Tier-1 service provider, currently operates across 22 sites serving 50 cities and 50 million subscribers on the network, processing more than 1,000 TB of data and generating more than 30 billion analytics records per day.
ConteXtream will be demoing ContexNet at Mobile World Congress 2014 located at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain. The demo will be provided by appointment only from the company’s meeting room, located in Hall 1 at meeting room 1A2MR.
