Sho-con.com morphed out of Showroomconsignment.com, the successful venture launched in June 2013 to sell furnishings from the America’s Cup premiere venues at San Francisco’s Marina Green and Pier 27. This project, furnished by Khrome Studios™ trade showroom (in the San Francisco Design Center), involved a tremendous amount of merchandise, which was then sold on-line. After wrapping the AC project, Sho-Con reverted to the original business model intended to benefit Design Trade Showrooms. Sho-Con offers a win-win solution to the age-old industry problem: a way to free up valuable floor space to display new product. To move floor samples quick, at a discount without reducing the value of their brand, and reaching new buyers outside of their physical space - no blow-out sales or costly options.
The Sho-Con showroom is in the Takahashi Building, next door to the Galleria and across the street from the flagship Design Within Reach and Restoration Hardware stores in SF. It is a prime street-front retail location. Sho-Con will select and curate modern samples, overstock, one-offs and prototypes from vendors and showrooms for the floor and on-line. Goods are priced to move quickly, and product is arriving daily.
In addition to most traditional payment methods, Sho-Con accepts Bitcoin to support the Bay Area's high-tech clientele. Trade programs and referral cards are available from many showrooms as well.
Sho-Con co-founder Karen McMullen (also president of Liamia Inc. and Khrome Studios), was looking for a new project that would benefit her peers and clients. Says McMullen, "We noticed this trend in the high-end transient environment in the banking industry in London over a decade ago, where executives were often relocated with healthy furniture budgets, which created a market for re-sale. We knew we wanted to do the same in San Francisco at some point. This model works well in the finance, technology, and start-up communities. This is our 30th year in service, marketing, and sales. We were ready to do something big."
McMullen, having worked in every aspect of the design industry and known for her expertise and passion, is excited to kick off this new venture.
With all sales, advertising, taxes, and shipping logistics nationwide solidified, Sho-Con's affiliated showrooms are anticipating a successful partnership. On the calendar for Sho-Con - Soft open 2/19/14 with an Art Exhibition by Samuel Fleming Lewis. March will open with a Contract Furnishings event for local hospitality and architectural firms.
