Gay & Lesbian Tour Operator Organizes ‘Solidarity Tour’ for College Football Star on the Brink of Becoming the NFL’s First Openly Gay Player
(PRWEB) February 12, 2014 -- Outgoing Adventures, based in Vancouver, BC, is offering a last-minute trip to Columbia, Missouri, to support and celebrate Michael Sam – the 2014 NFL draft prospect who last week announced to the press that he is gay. More than just a weekend getaway, the tour is designed to let guests participate in a counter-demonstration to the promised protests of the fundamental Westboro Baptist Church over the issue of gay rights at Missouri University on Saturday 15.
Sam, an award-winning defensive lineman at Missouri University, is projected to be a coveted pick at the 2014 NFL draft and would become the first openly gay athlete in any of the USA’s three major professional sports.
"This is a huge opportunity for the LGBT community to show its support for Michael. The Westboro Baptist Church is planning a protest and we wanted to give the LGBT community a chance to be there," says Chris Boycott, owner of Outgoing Adventures.
Westboro Baptist Church is known for its extreme ideologies and intolerance, especially of gay people. Widely described as a hate group, the church has been disavowed and denounced by all Baptist denominations and its members regularly picket celebrity funerals and public events. Members of the student body at Missouri State University have plans to form a human wall against Westboro’s protest and Outgoing Adventures’ tour participants will have the chance to play a part.
Beginning Friday evening, the tour runs until Sunday morning and includes return airfare, ground transportation, airport transfers in Kansas City and two nights’ accommodation. Proceeds from the event will go towards the You Can Play organization.
