Published by Atlantic Information Services, Inc. (AIS), AIS’s Directory of Health Plans: 2014 contains enrollment data and contact information for all health plans operating in the U.S. as of year-end 2013. Entering its 11th year of publication, the data in the new 2014 edition demonstrate a continued trend of increasing health plan enrollment in the public sector.

This annual database offers health plan enrollment data with approximately 268 million covered lives accounted for, which counts approximately 7.3 million more covered lives than the previous year. Preliminary analysis of the data shows enrollment in Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP and other community-based insurance programs grew 3.59% during 2013 (up from approximately 70 million enrollees in 2012). There has also been a slight increase in commercial sector enrollment — up 1.79% (from approximately 86 million members in 2012) during 2013 after several years of declines in commercial enrollment.

In addition to enrollment data, AIS’s Directory of Health Plans: 2014 provides expanded coverage of health plans, with data finding:

*181 health plans participating in both public and private health insurance exchanges
*27 different health plans sponsoring 213 Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs)
*55 Medicare Part D (PDP) entities being sponsored by health plans

Research and data tracking is conducted by in-house researchers who work exclusively for AIS. To produce AIS’s Directory of Health Plans, the company’s on-staff researchers personally interview or survey a knowledgeable person at each health plan — including subsidiaries and parent companies — to get a clear picture of product offerings, contracts and markets.

The data in AIS’s Directory of Health Plans, on which these analyses are based, is available for pre-order and will deliver starting late this month.
