Fermented apple juice which eventually turns into vinegar is known as apple cider vinegar. It is commonly used as a healing remedy. Though taken for weight loss, this vinegar can help people with digestive disorders, aches, pains, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes reports The Indian Express on 26th January 2014. To justify the benefits of this vinegar in terms of weight loss, a recent study published in the Bioscience Biotechnology Biochemistry Journal in 2009 focused on 175 obese Japanese adults. 15ml of apple cider vinegar was consumed by the participants for 12 weeks. After the period, participants had lost weight, triglycerides and body visceral fat. The acetic acid within the vinegar acts as a catalyst for carbohydrate digestive enzymes. This results in some sugars and starches to temporarily pass through the intestines without being digested.
