ProLiteracy Board of Directors Appoints Morgan as Permanent President and CEO
Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) February 14, 2014 -- The Board of Directors of ProLiteracy, the largest adult literacy membership organization in the nation, today announced the formal appointment of Kevin Morgan as permanent president and CEO of the organization. Morgan has been serving as interim president and CEO since November 2012. Morgan will remain a member of the Board of Directors; John H. Ward, senior vice president with RR Donnelley Logistics, has been appointed chair of the Board of Directors.
"The Board of Directors is extremely pleased to introduce Kevin Morgan as the new president and CEO of ProLiteracy," says Ward. “Kevin has been invaluable as board chair and since November 2012, he has fully immersed himself in the organization. The Board believes Kevin’s professional leadership will continue to serve ProLiteracy well as we continue to raise awareness for adult literacy around the world through our materials, services, and programs.”
Under Morgan’s leadership, ProLiteracy has undertaken a new strategic plan to fully focus on the organization’s mission of developing and promoting adult literacy learning, content, programs and advocacy to help adult learners. As a result, the organization has produced new materials aligned with the 2014 GED test and other high school equivalency tests through its publishing division New Readers Press.
New programs have been launched—both in the Central New York area, where ProLiteracy is headquartered, and nationally—to embed adult literacy programs into existing social services. Additionally, significant outreach has been made to elected officials, including more than 115 visits to policymakers in Congress during ProLiteracy’s recent U.S. Conference on Adult Literacy. Morgan has also overseen strategic hires in the organization’s fundraising and finance divisions and has infused operations with a sense of entrepreneurial spirit.
Since 2007, Morgan has been a member of the ProLiteracy Board of Directors and has served as board chair since 2010. His involvement with adult literacy began in 2002 when he conducted research related to the merger of Laubach Literacy and Literacy Volunteers of America, which led to the forming of ProLiteracy. Morgan has extensive marketing experience with global agency networks including McCann Erickson, Havas Euro RSCG, and TBWA Chiat/Day where he has directed a variety of leading brand accounts including MasterCard, Agilent Technologies, and Nissan. Morgan holds a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University and a master’s from Keller in Chicago.
"I am honored and excited to be selected as the permanent president and CEO of ProLiteracy," says Morgan. "In my short time as interim president and CEO, I have worked intensively with the ProLiteracy staff to gain an even deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the adult literacy issue. I look forward to continuing these important efforts and working with our Board, our staff, our members and customers, and students around the country to ensure every adult has a right to literacy."
