In an article published by Medical News Today on February 9th titled “Mediterranean diet 'better than low-fat diet' for cardiovascular risk,” the findings of a recently published American Journal of Medicine study are discussed. The study found that a Mediterranean diet is more effective at reducing cardiovascular disease risks than a low-fat diet. The study analyzed data from 1957 to the present day and examined the relationship between food and heart disease.
The study found that high levels of saturated fats are linked with increased rates of heart disease. Conversely the Mediterranean diet is high in monounsaturated fat, which has been proven to decrease heart disease risk, and is low in saturated fats.
