The Duffy Law Firm, PLLC Alerts Long Island Nursing Home Residents of Alleged Tragedy in Medford Nursing Home, Leading to Nine Arrests
Uniondale, NY (PRWEB) February 13, 2014 -- Newsday reported on February 11, 2014 ("AG: $60M 'looted' from Medford nursing home; patient's death cited") that on Monday, the Medford Multicare Center, a Medford nursing home, was accused of endangering the residents of its facility, making "impossible the delivery of required services that Medicaid paid for" and bringing about the death of one resident.
According to Newsday, nine people have been arrested and have been criminally charged in connection with this nursing home probe. "17 licensed and certified workers have been convicted of neglect and falsification of records since 2008, and 5,000 incidents and accidents were reported in the past six years."
The complaint filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court, index number 14-02941, alleges, in part, "New York State has paid Medford over $280 million to provide critical care to its elderly residents... Since Medford opened in 2003, Mordechai Klein, Norman Rausman, Martin Rausman, Michael Rausman, Henry Rausman and Mendel Aschkenazi have withdrawn over $60 million in profit sharing, draws, employee loans, unearned exorbitant salaries, alleged management fees and purported charitable donations to their own family-run private foundations..."
Alleged wrong doings in the verified complaint included misappropriating millions of dollars of public funds to care for the elderly, using the funds to "enrich the defendants through exorbitant salaries, bogus 'fees' through a shell company and self-serving charitable contributions."
