Government proposes new scheme to get sick employees back into work; Your Lifestyle Products comment on this initiative.
Gatwick, Surrey (PRWEB UK) 13 February 2014 -- Government ministers have proposed a scheme to help get people back into work after being off sick. The Health and Work Service will offer voluntary medical assessments and treatment plans reports the BBC on 9th February 2014. A private sector run scheme will save employers money by having fewer employees of sick. (New Health and Work Service to get long-term sick back to work http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26105246).
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) states that this service will be paid for by scrapping the Statutory Sick Pay Percentage Threshold Scheme (PTS). The PTS means that some employers are currently given compensation for high levels of sickness. According to the government, approximately one million British people are off work for long-term because of illness.
Despite the positive attitude towards this scheme by ministers, Labour’s shadow work and pensions minister, Kate Green states, “Any help to cut number of days of sickness is welcome, but with the government’s Work Programme helping just 5% of people on sickness and disability benefits into jobs, it is clear much more needs to be done to help people get back to work.”
Your Lifestyle Products Ltd, comment on this latest government proposal. “Employees getting ill on a long term basis is something that affects business on a grand scale. The new scheme is a sure step in the right direction. This combined with more education around preventing illness through healthy lifestyle and good nutrition and we could be making good moves towards becoming a healthier nation.”
