Rocky Mountain Biologicals Secures Key Supply Agreements for 2014
Missoula, MT (PRWEB) February 17, 2014 -- Rocky Mountain Biologicals (RMBIO),http://www.rmbio.com, announced today that they have completed several 2014 supply agreements with manufacturers of critical bovine and porcine raw materials. These agreements provide assurance to customers that the company will be able to meet their demands for key products including fetal bovine serum, bovine serum albumin and Lipogro®, a proprietary bovine cholesterol concentrate.
Ongoing drought and related economic factors have recently resulted in the lowest number of cattle in the US in the past 60 years. As conditions start to change and herds begin to grow again RMBIO partners are seeing even fewer animals being processed. This combined with a backdrop of increasing demand creates a case study in supply and demand worthy of any economic textbook.
RMBIO CEO Suresh Daniel stated, “We have always greatly valued the partnerships we hold with our key suppliers. In some cases, right now there simply is not enough raw material - especially fetal bovine serum - to go around. We are grateful that our relationships, some of which extend over 40 years, have helped ensure we will have adequate supply to meet the needs of our customers. These are truly unique times, and most of our partners are predicting it is going to get worse as the demand for these materials continues to grow."
Daniel continued, “RMBIO views the current fetal bovine serum shortage as an opportunity to introduce customers in the pharmaceutical and cell culture industries to Lipogro®. Lipogro® compliments the use of fetal bovine serum in many cell lines by reducing the amount of FBS required. Some of the world’s biggest selling pharmaceuticals including Remicade® have long utilized bovine cholesterol. With the current state of the industry we have seen a strong interest in understanding how bovine cholesterol concentrate can ease supply chain worries while dramatically reducing manufacturing costs of monoclonal antibodies.”
RMBIO also offers several other products that can be used in conjunction with fetal bovine serum, including newborn calf serum, fortified calf serum, normal calf serum and a proprietary bovine growth serum.
RMBIO is a manufacturer of bovine, porcine, and equine sera as well as other custom protein products, used in the Life Sciences industry. Additional product offerings include water for injection (WFI). The company uses proprietary processing technology to fractionate animal blood into the growth factors required to make cell culture media. RMBIO was founded in 2004 and operates a 20,000 square foot state-of-the-art production facility in Missoula, Montana.
