Announcement: BluesGuitar.com Releases “Blues Pentatonic Guitar Lick in the Key of E - Blues Guitar Lesson”
(PRWEB) February 14, 2014 -- The 12 Bar Blues Progression is one of the most common chord progressions in popular music. It is most commonly based on the 1-4-5 or 1-4-5-b6 (flat 6) chord progressions. The last two measures is usually a turnaround. The Turnaround is used many styles of music. The Blues Turnaround or V, VI, I (5-4-1) Turnaround came from the Ragtime Blues era. The cadence of the Blues Turnaround is backwards from traditional western music. The job of the Blues Turnaround is to show the listener where the chord progression ends and starts over, it does this by ending on the V (five) of the chord progression making it want to resolve back to the I (one).
MacLennan explains that this lick is based in the open E pentatonic scale and he demonstrates the lick as follows; open 2nd string and then 3rd fret 2nd string with 3rd finger, bending slightly, to open first string to 3rd fret first string, with a slight bend and then back to the open first string. Next he descends the scale ending on an E on the 2nd fret of the 4th string and finally ends the lick by fretting an open E7 chord and doing a hammer-on from the open 3rd string to the first fret. You can try mixing things up by doing hammer-on and pull-off’s throughout the scale. Guitar TAB’s are available for this blues lesson at BluesGuitar.com.
