JFK Assassination: Retirement Community Residents will Honor Presidents Day by Recalling President Kennedy's life
Newton, NC (PRWEB) February 18, 2014 -- In honor of Presidents Day, Abernethy Laurels will welcome Historian Melinda Ratchford when she presents "The JFK Assassination: Fifty Years Later" on Monday, February 24 at 2pm. The presentation will take place on the campus of the retirement community.
Dr. Ratchford is a native of Kannapolis, North Carolina. She received her Bachelor of Science in Social Science and a Sixth Year degree in Curriculum from Appalachian State University. Ratchford earned her Masters in Library Education from UNC- Greensboro, and later attended UNC- Chapel Hill where she received her Doctorate in Education.
Dr. Ratchford worked in the North Carolina Public Schools for 31 years and retired in July 2000. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Sister Christine Beck Department of Education at Belmont Abby College. Dr. Ratchford was the 2002 Adrian Faculty Excellence Award winner at Belmont Abby College. In 2009, Melinda began a year-long research project about the Kennedys and has presented several professional workshops on Camelot: the Myth and Mystique of the Kennedys. "America is intrigued by the Kennedy family legacy. We are excited about this opportunity to honor Presidents Day," said Public Relations Director Shaylyn Ladd.
