Stonehouse Signs Celebrates 100 Years of Incorporation
Arvada, CO (PRWEB) February 17, 2014 -- Stonehouse Signs, a Colorado company that manufactures standard and custom safety signs, safety tags and custom printed magnetic whiteboards, celebrates 100 years of incorporation on February 17, 2014. Officially incorporated in Colorado in 1914, Stonehouse Signs has been producing signs and other visual communication products, including safety signs, for 150 years, and has been a registered Colorado company for the last 100 years.
William Stonehouse opened a sign shop in Chicago in 1863, and taught his son, J.W., the art of painting gold leaf lettering on store windows. J.W., after learning the art of sign painting, eventually left Chicago and moved west, settling in Colorado in the early 1900s as a sign painter. It was J.W. that filed for incorporation in 1914 after changes to U.S. Tax Law made it advantageous to do so, calling the company The Stonehouse Steel Sign Company. J.W. also brought other innovations to the company, including lobbying for a standardized system of warning bells for mine workers to prevent accidents; standardizing sign layouts, many of which are still in use today and are incorporated by reference in current OSHA regulations; and creating a signature font for better clarity and readability.
“Stonehouse Signs is immensely proud of our long history, and we celebrate our 100 years of incorporation just one year after celebrating our 150th year of being in the sign business,” says Jeff Stone, current co-owner of Stonehouse Signs. “We are pleased to be able to call Colorado home for over 100 years, and hope our customers also appreciate how we combine our rich past with current technological innovations to allow us to make custom signs and other visual communication products to their exact specifications, lightning fast.”
