Intriguing Picasso to be offered at Beaux Auctions, Mar 1
Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 16, 2014 -- Beaux Auctions will be conducting its next sale on Mar 1, featuring important fine art, especially Latin American, and ancient Egyptian and Greco-Roman artifacts. As usual, the sale will also contain a variety of high-quality and rare antiques ranging from sculptures to chandeliers.
Headlining the sale is an original and unusual Picasso aquatint. “This work of art has a large X covering the paper indicating that it was meant to be discarded. It is hand signed by the artist and is a unique, interesting piece,” explained Ynoluz Bacalao, co-founder. This Picasso carries an estimate of $15000-$20000, but could exceed those numbers. The majority of fine art featured in the sale comes from Latin American artists. An original ink on paper by renowned Cuban artist Wifredo Lam has been estimated at $15000-$20000. Lam is one of the most important figures in Latin American art and his Surrealist paintings are known around the world. Two works of art by Cuban master Mario Carreño are fine examples of the artist’s style. “These two paintings complete a series of four, the other two having been sold in our December and January auctions,” said Bacalao. They are a must see for any Carreño or Cuban art collector. They have each been estimated at $8000-$12000.
A Cuzco school oil on canvas depicting Saint Anthony of Padua with Jesus will also appear at auction on Mar 1st. This is a typical representation of Saint Anthony of Padua with the Jesus child and lilies. The lily symbolizes purity, innocence, integrity. This painting is mid-18th to early 19th century and has been estimated at $10000-$14000.
Antiquities collectors will also be interested in the sale as there are various lots in the category, including an Ancient Roman mosaic from Dougga, Tunisia, circa 350 AD. Dougga is almost certainly the best-preserved Roman town in North Africa and acclaimed for the diversity, number and artistic merit of its mosaics.
The luxury goods category will be represented by an exceptional lot. Bidders will have a chance to win a rare Hermes crocodile skin briefcase. The briefcase comes finished in Crocodilus Porosos, the finest crocodile skin in the world. This version carries a 4 to 5 year waiting list and is available by special order only. It has been estimated at $40000-$50000.
