Mercy College’s Physician Assistant Program Director Lorraine Cashin said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for Mercy College students to interact with community members by providing essential health services that help facilitate a healthier Bronx. This also provides students with a first-hand understanding and appreciation of the community’s needs.”
HSSBC Director Gwendolyn McEvilley said: “I am ecstatic about the possibilities of what this partnership brings to members of the Head Start community. This is an opportunity for our children, families and staff members to get screenings and referrals, which in turn, contributes to our mission of creating a healthier alternative for all.”
Head Start Programs service low-income children and their families, providing school readiness with a clear and comprehensive focus on cognitive development, social and emotional development as well as health and nutrition. The Mobile Health Vehicle is operated and staffed by Physician Assistant (PA) faculty and PA graduate students. The vehicle is funded by a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration Grant.
