For sports enthusiasts, there is no better news than the opening of a new home for tournament events. Visit My Smokies, the premier website for Smoky Mountain lodging, announced a new sporting events facility geared toward children 6-18, Rocky Top Sports World, in Gatlinburg, TN.

“Rocky Tops Sports World has a goal of transforming sporting events in Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains,” said a spokesperson for Visit My Smokies. “This will be the premier place to host championships and tournament events.”

Scheduled to open in summer of 2014, Rocky Top Sports World rests on 80 acres in Gatlinburg near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and it is equipped to fit the needs of any athlete. The nearly completed sports facility will be home to a total of seven fields and a more than 86,000 square foot indoor facility.

Visit My Smokies states the facility will be able to house six youth basketball courts, twelve volleyball courts, and fourteen youth soccer fields, as well as a championship football stadium with seating up to 1,500 fans.

The indoor facilities are configurable to all indoor sports, including volleyball, wrestling and martial arts. Three private team rooms are on the property, as well as floor level and aerial viewing areas. Also on site are an indoor, outdoor cafe and merchandise retail area. Outside, there are seven outdoor fields, six with state-of-the-art synthetic turf.
