High Tech's AAI Provides Expanded Opportunities for Recent Graduates in New Facility
Portsmouth, NH (PRWEB) March 07, 2014 -- “We knew the move to Portsmouth would be great for our business, and we are seeing that already,” explains AAI President and CEO, Tom Mahoney of their recent move to a new building on Constitution Ave. in Portsmouth. With more space, a brand new facility and room to grow, AAI has recent graduates excited about the opportunity to put their degree to use while also remaining on the Seacoast.
AAI sells electronic components to companies around the world, providing materials for computers and other high tech equipment. “We are based here, but our customers are all over the world, which makes it really dynamic and fun,” says Mahoney.
One of their recent hires agrees. “I just graduated from the Peter Paul School (formerly Whittemore School of Business at UNH) with a degree in Business Administration, focusing on International Business and International Relations, and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to find work in the area after school,” says Austin Brooks.
“My dad actually told me about the company when he was working on constructing the new building,” says Brooks’. “So I looked into it, and it’s been a great fit for me. I studied German and International Relations, so I understand how to work with different cultures. Working at AAI gives me a chance to put all that into practice.”
All new hires at AAI go through an extensive training process to learn the business and tools they use. It’s a combination of classroom and practical hands-on training, allowing employees to learn new skills and then put them into use immediately. “With 40 sales people here and refining our training over 15 years, we have found a process that works really well to set up our new employees for success,” says Mahoney.
Brooks agrees. “This is a great opportunity for me, and it’s really exciting. I love that I can live in the area and work at a place where I can speak German. Our business is worldwide and fast paced, which makes it challenging, interesting and provides huge opportunity for growth. Also the environment here is very supportive and fun. We all get excited when someone adds a new client or makes a sale.”
The new facility includes state-of-the-art Electro Static Discharge (ESD) inventory space to properly handle components, which includes special flooring and a climate controlled environment. “Part of the training is learning about all the technical requirements that enable us to work with suppliers around the globe,” adds Brooks. “We are working with equipment that has to be handled correctly or it won’t function, so the orientation gives us the knowledge to help us build those relationships.”
Mahoney is pleased that the new office has also created a new energy within the company. “We are close to Portsmouth, and access to major highways and all the great things happening in town, which makes it easy to attract great talent. We have a great team, and I am excited to be able to offer opportunities to people like Austin.”
